The IRS and I are in a little dispute over tax deficiency for 2021. I owe the tax, not disputing that.
But I don’t have a wad of cash under my mattress to pay what I owe in a lump. So I’m taking a tip from The Orange F@ckwad and I’m taking them to court. And at the same time I’m asking to settle by making monthly payments for 24 months.
The IRS has a program called Fresh Start.
The program offers taxpayers with three repayment options to legally and satisfactorily clear their tax debts. It, in the process, helps them avoid future penalties and interests that can lead to financial problems.
Here’s the rub: There is a NON REFUNDABLE $205 fee to get into the program. Fill out 32 pages of application, provide another 100 pages of support documentation —- AND the first payment of what the taxpayer is offering to settle for. And keep sending the payments until they accept or deny the offer. AND ALL THE MONEY IS THEIRS TO KEEP even if they don’t agree to the settlement offer.
This makes as much sense as the county charging a fee if I used a credit card to pay water bill, or property tax, or car license tax
Hey Joe! Get rid of government fees too will ya?
