I was ten when Old Yeller came to the movie theater. The Dawn Theater in Hillsdale. “Ice Cold Air Conditioning” was their tag line in every ad and above the marquee. Maybe Jannawill let me know if it’s still standing. Har. The movie starred Tommy Kirk (now 66), Fess Parker (Davey Crockett! Daniel Boone! now 84), Chuck Connors (The Rifleman! dead) and Dorothy McGuire (dead.)

I never saw the movie; I grew up in a poor family and never saw movies till I started dating.
No, I don’t think that I cried when I saw this movie, but I sure do remember it. I’m 61 yrs. old now, but this movie brings back some memories. If I’m not mistaken it was made by Walt Disney, starring Fess Parker and I can’t remember who else.
Good ole’ Yeller, got bitten by a skunk or some other animal that had Rabies. Old Yeller caught the Rabies and had to be shot cause he was foaming at the mouth and throwing fit’s of bad temper. If Yeller would have bit you, you would get the Rabies also. Back in those day’s, it was the only thing that had to be done.
Yes, I do remember this Movie. I think that I paid a whole .25 cents to see it. Imagine that.

I have deliberately never seen that scene, or indeed that movie, because I know for a fact I’d cry my eyes out. The idea of someone shooting a dog who hasn’t just torn someone’s face off is too much for me to handle.
